Founding Infrastructure Engineer

Dallas, TX Full-time US citizen/visa only $150k–$260k 0.50%–4% equity 3+ Years

Company

Tort is a technology services company for Personal Injury law firms. We build software that enables Trial Lawyers and their staff to build more cases, faster and stronger, with less stress and burnout. We were founded in 2026 by University of Southern California alumni, with specialization in AI and confidential data security. Our mission is to build the technology infrastructure that Trial Lawyers use to deliver life-changing outcomes for their clients.

Role

As our founding infrastructure engineer, you will own the infrastructure that powers Tort and the multi-environment delivery platform end-to-end. Your days will be a mix of working to solve problems for customers and building resilient, stable production infrastructure. This is a fast-paced role where you are expected to learn quickly; we will have you jump in from day one.

If you worked at a large company and felt restricted working on a single piece of a huge machine, look no further. At Tort, you will work on complicated production infrastructure, learning quickly while interfacing with customers and owning broad scope across the platform.

Responsibilities

  • Own the reliability, scalability, and security of our production platform. Design and operate the systems that serve customer workloads end-to-end.
  • Own our cloud infrastructure. Drive the infrastructure-as-code, wire policy-as-code, and compliance automation that keeps us compliant and secure.
  • Engage directly with our clients to help them with any issues they have with our platform.
  • Develop new features and integrations primarily in TypeScript (we love a modern strictly typed language!)
  • Make architecture decisions to help our team move fast and deliver value.

Core technical skills

  • TypeScript, JavaScript, Python, and SQL databases.
  • Object storage, CDNs, and Serverless compute.
  • Experience owning production systems.
  • Ability to quickly solve problems for clients.

Must haves

  • Deep understnading of LLM-powered infrastructure, Inference frameworks, and LLM-powered applications.
  • Fast speed to output, with high attention to detail.
  • Potential for senior leadership as we scale.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Self-driven (you'll own your work from day 1).

Preferred

  • You have personally shipped infrastructure that handled PHI, defended it in a SOC 2 Type II or HIPAA audit, and walked out with a clean report.
  • CS degree from top 50 US university, 3.5+ GPA (Bachelor's required)
  • Experience building high-stakes production infrastructure in a regulated industry

Logistics

  • Full-time, generous salary + equity.
  • This role is in-person in our Dallas, TX office.
  • You will report to the founder.
